United have six appeal

Oxford won their first pre-season friendly with aplomb this evening, beating Havant & Waterlooville 6-0 at Westleigh Park. United’s first goal came in the first minute from new strikerManny Omoyinmi, nutmegging the Havant goalie from twelve yards from an offside position. The U’s failed to score again before half-time, but made up for it with three goals in the first ten minutes of the second period. The first in the 46th minute from a Paul Powell shot in off the post, then a speedy burst by Chris Hackett in the 54th minute with Derek Lilley scoring from close range a minute later. Two more towards the end, the first from Dean Whitehead and a final spectacular 35-yarder from Neil McGowan into the top corner rounded off the scoring. There’s a match report here.

Old boys find new homes

Steve Davis and Nigel Jemson have found themselves new clubs, both dropping down a division to continue (finish?) their playing careers. Davis has joined Macclesfield (from a trial as reported last month here on Rage Online) whilst Nigel Jemson has secured a one year contract at Shrewsbury Town. Meanwhile there are reports that Simon Marsh has gone on trial with Bristol Rovers with a view to a permanent move.

Friday’s D-day

According to the United official site the result of the Morrells appeal will be announced this Friday. Fingers crossed that the appeal judges don’t overrule their esteemed colleague from the first trial.
