Purkiss goodbye

Ben Purkiss has left Oxford United by mutual consent and signed for Hereford United until the end of the season.

The right-back will be reunited with Simon Clist, who completed a similar move in January.

Purkiss joined Oxford United soon after Chris Wilder's men had defeated the law graduate's York City side at Wembley in the play-off final. He made 22 starts during his first season at Grenoble Road, but struggled to displace Damian Batt in the United starting eleven.

Following the arrival of fellow full-back Andy Whing in the summer, Purkiss was loaned to Conference club Darlington, for whom he made 12 appearances before a knee injury prevented any further football.

The 27 year old leaves Oxford having made a total of 26 appearances, failing to get on scoresheet in any of those.
