In what must be one of the most short-lived loan extensions in Oxford United's history, Rob Hall has been recalled by West Ham only a day after agreeing a longer stay with the U's.

With a mounting injury list to consider ahead of the festive period, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has once more exercised his right to bring the England youth international back to Upton Park.

Of Hall's departure, Chris Wilder said: “It is a blow because Rob has shown what he can do in front of goal, but we always knew how highly regarded he is at West Ham and that this could happen. That's why we have kept our options open. Tommy Craddock and Deane Smalley both scored at the weekend, we have James Constable and Jon-Paul Pittman, plus Alfie Potter back from injury and young Matt Fletcher with us now.”

Looking to the Boxing Day clash with AFC Wimbledon, Wilder added: “The door is always open for Robbie but his departure means someone else gets the chance to show what they can do now”.
