Cole mining

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, June 14th, 2010

The latest addition to the Oxford United squad was announced this afternoon as left-winger Mitchell Cole joined on a two-year contract. Cole was under contract at Stevenage (not Borough) FC, but was made available by United's fellow Conference promotion winners.

Cole had often featured against Oxford since he joined Stevenage for a five-figure fee from Northampton Town. The season before last it was a challenge on Cole by Damian Batt that saw the United right back sent off, while when he was at Southend it was James Clarke who saw red for a foul on Cole in a reserves fixture.

Cole became Oxford's eighth summer signing following the capture of midfielder Simon Heslop from Barnsley last week. Heslop had been on loan at Luton at the back end of last season, his arrival coinciding with the Hatters upsurge of form. He displaced fellow new signing Asa Hall from the Luton midfield.

Meanwhile, a meeting between chairman Kelvin Thomas and representatives of the supporters trust OxVox took place last week. Details can be found here, but the key points are that despite promotion Oxford's playing budget will only be slightly larger than last season; a reserve side will play home games at Didcot Town next season; and an open meeting will be announced shortly.
