Tall as a Hall

From the Rage Online newsdesk Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Oxford today announced their first close-season signing as 6'2″ attacking midfielder Asa Hall joined the ranks. Hall was most recently at Luton, from where he was released in March. Despite being from Kenilworth Road, Hall does have useful Football League experience now that he has joined a Football League club, having served a loan spell at Shrewsbury and also playing in the Football League for the Hatters before they were relegated from the Football League.

Meanwhile, Chris Wilder had announced those players who will no longer be staying at the club, and unsurprisingly all of the out of contract players have been released. Veteran goalkeeper Billy Turley, United's longest-serving player, has gone, along with Chris Hargreaves, Kevin Sandwith, and Franny Green. This leaves club captain Adam Murray as the longest-serving player in the squad, and one of just three players (excluding Matt Green) to pre-date Wilder.

Also unsurprising is the news that both John Grant and Lewis Chalmers have returned to Aldershot following their spectacularly unsuccessful loan spells, while Jamie Cook's disappointing season has culminated with the news that he is free to seek a transfer to another club. It's a shame for all the departing players that they have to leave just as United have made the return to the Football League, but that's the way the mop flops.
