Stockport fans 2 Raging Fever 2

Raging Fever travelled to Manchester to take on the fans of Stockport at the very impressive Manchester City Training Academy.

Despite the very warm, sunny conditions (yes, in Manchester!) Fever produced a display in the first half that was worthy of the pitch and surroundings, with some neat passing football. It wasn't long, therefore, before the deadlock was broken with the opening goal coming through Nick Wehmeier. Latching on to a John Matthews through-ball, Wehmeier kept his cool when one on one with the 'keeper to slot home, giving Fever a deserved lead.

Fever's dominance continued through the first half, and they were rewarded with a rare set-piece goal. Dan Pear's pinpoint corner found the head of Stuart Burson, who made no mistake, nodding in from close range.

At the break a 2-0 lead was a fair reflection of a game in which the Oxford fans had arguably played their best football of the season, and Fever were confident of adding more after the interval.

However, the Stockport supporters had other ideas and came out of the block clearly looking to make up for their poor showing in the first half. Fever were unable to cope and soon conceded when the defence was unable to clear, allowing a County striker to finish from close range. This set the tone for the remainder of the match, with Stockport enjoying much of the play. It was far from one-way traffic, though, and Fever had several chances to put the game out of reach, with John Matthews and Dan Pear both going close.

Just when it looked like the Oxford fans would hold on for victory, they conceded with the last kick of the game. A Stockport winger put in a hopeful cross-cum-shot that came off the bar and fell onto the goal-line at the feet of a Stockport striker; he did his best to miss, but eventually managed to poke home.

Despite the obvious disappointment of the last-gasp draw, Fever enjoyed a cracking game and both sides will certainly look to arrange a rematch in the future.
