Oxford United play their final game of the regular season tomorrow, with a nice trip to the seaside to take on relegation-threatened Eastbourne Borough. However, Oxford will have to manage without the presence of manager Chris Wilder, who will instead be watching the game between potential play-off opponents Rushden & Diamonds and Luton Town at Nene Park. Youth Team coach Les Taylor will be at Broadhall Way, to keep an eye on York City as they take on Stevenage Borough.
Wilder has already stated that Oxford will be resting key players in order to avoid injuries ahead of the play-offs. This means that we are unlikely to see James Constable and Jake Wright, along with those who have had minor injuries recently such as Mark Creighton, Dannie Bulman, and Simon Clist. One key player is Damian Batt, but with no obvious right-back replacement he may have to play. We are likely to see players such as Rhys Day, Jamie Cook, Franny Green, Lewis Chalmers, and possibly even John Grant, while Billy Turley may get another run out in order to protect Ryan Clarke. Adam Chapman should also be rested, being the only creative midfielder in the ranks in the absence of Adam Murray, although that may depend on the fitness of Chris Hargreaves.
Eastbourne need to win to ensure that they will be in the Conference Premier League again next season, although even if they lose they could still stay up. They are currently in 20th place, one point above 21st-placed Gateshead, but with a worse goal difference. If Borough do lose, then they need the Heed to lose at home to AFC Wimbledon, and Ebbsfleet United to fail to win at Tamworth. One of Forest Green Rovers or Histon could still go down, but as both are three points above the drop zone this would require both Gateshead and Eastbourne to win and for (one of) them to lose.
