The unconscious third

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, March 20th, 2010

United, without a game today, slipped to third in the table thanks to an incredible second-half performance from Luton Town, who climbed to second. Luton were 1-0 down at half-time at Ebbsfleet United, but scored six goals after the break to move two points ahead of Oxford, who have three games in hand over the Hatters. Fourth-placed Rushden & Diamonds were also a goal down at half-time at Altrincham, but after taking the lead Rushden were pegged back by a last minute goal to draw 2-2. Fifth-placed York City's game at home to seventh-placed AFC Wimbledon was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Kettering Town missed the opportunity to go above York after they lost 2-0 at home to second-bottom Forest Green Rovers. Third-bottom Eastbourne Borough blew a two-goal lead at home to bottom side Grays Athletic to draw 2-2, but that result still leaves Grays 14 points from safety. As well as Luton, Mansfield Town were also big away winners, turning over Histon 5-0, with Andy Burgess among the scorers. Meanwhile Cambridge United scored in the last minute to overcome a two-goal half-time deficit at Wrexham to draw 2-2.

United's under-18s didn't seem particularly put out by the news that six second-year scholars are being released at the end of the season, as the boys beat Yeovil Town 6-0 at Iffley Road this morning. Henry Owen opened the scoring after 13 minutes, but the game was an hour old before Dan West doubled the score. Aaron Woodley scored twice in six minutes, before West scored his second with five minutes left. Conor McDonagh scored the final goal in the last minute as United completed the double over the Glovers.
