Luke staggers off

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Luke Foster today joined Mansfield Town for an undisclosed fee. The popular central defender was told by Chris Wilder that he was free to look for another club shortly after the manager had named Foster, among others, as being responsible for conceding a sloppy late equaliser at Salisbury City. Since then Foster has failed to feature in the squad.

It was clear that Foster's days were numbered when Wilder signed Jake Wright on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and selected Wright and Mark Creighton ahead of Foster for the Tamworth game, with Fozzie not even on the bench. Foster joined United from Stalybridge Celtic at the start of 2007 after a brief trial that was set up after his father wrote to the club. He was initially played in midfield, but proved his worth in defence, eventually ousting Barry Quinn.

Foster also failed to feature in yesterday's FA Trophy win over Woking, in which Rhys Day played alongside Wright, and in today's practice match at Brentford, which saw Creighton partnered by youth-team defender Henry Owen. United drew 2-2 with the Bees, twice coming from behind with equalising goals by Jack Midson. Billy Turley played in goal, while Damian Batt and Anthony Tonkin played in the full-back positions. There was a young midfield comprising Richard Groves, James Dobson, and Sam Deering, while Aaron Woodley and Jamie Cook played alongside Midson. [@player]foster, luke[/@player]
