One who’s not been here out, one who’s already here in

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, January 4th, 2010

There was further movement of Oxford United personnel today, although not (yet) the anticipated signing of Cambridge United left back Anthony Tonkin. Most significantly, at least from our perspective, is the news that ROS Declan Benjamin has not had his contract renewed and has therefore been released by United. Benjamin hasn't featured for the first team this season, and has spent most of the time on loan to Banbury United, where he has excelled. However, with fierce competition in the Oxford squad the coaches felt that he wouldn't feature in their plans, and that he would be more likely to get regular football elsewhere (e.g. Banbury, perhaps). This means, of course, that Rage Online is in the market for a new sponsee.

Joining the Us is Franny Green, who has been here for the past six weeks on loan from Kettering Town. The loan was initially stated to be with a view to a permanent move, and if permanent means four months then that has become a reality, as Green signs a deal keeping him here until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Ian Sampson will continue playing at Didcot Town on work experience, while Ross Perry has returned to Glasgow Rangers. Onome Sodje has also left United, rejoining Barnsley as his loan spell comes to a close. Chris Wilder did try to extend his deal by another month, but Sodje apparently wanted to return to Yorkshire in the vain hope that he might earn a first team place with the Tykes.
