Three of Oxford's main promotion rivals were involved in Conference action last night, and all three of them dropped two points.
Second-placed Stevenage Borough are now six points behind United after they were held to a goalless draw at home by struggling Wrexham. Luton Town and York City drew 1-1 at Kenilworth Road. This leaves Luton still fifth, eight points adrift of the Us, and York in sixth place, a further four points behind.
This means that, of the current realistic championship rivals, only third-placed Kettering Town, who are seven points behind Oxford, now have a game in hand. AFC Wimbledon, who are in eighth place, have played one game fewer than the Yellows, but they are currently 14 points back, while even if Wrexham win both their games in hand that would still leave them 16 points beneath the Us.
