Bullman to Ox, Rhodes lead to United

Oxford United signed two more players today, as Chris Wilder's squad for next season continues to take on a most impressive shape. Joining from Crawley is Dannie Bullman, widely regarded as one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the Conference. Oxford and Crawley were supposed to make the announcement together, but such was little Steve Evans' ire at losing his best player, and pretty much write-off his chances of achieving success next season, that he blew the lid off the deal with a premature announcement. Never mind, as United had the last laugh.

Also joining today was left-winger Alex Rhodes from Rotherham United. Rhodes had a few games on loan at Woking last season, scoring one goal before getting injured. Rhodes previously played for Bradford City and Brentford, and he even had a loan spell at Swindon, but we'll forgive him for that if he proves any good. He is notable for having a 142-word quotation from peace activist Marian Williamson tattooed on the inside of his leg.

In tonight's England C international at the KasStad, Belgium beat England 1-0 with a goal from Brecht Capon in the 63rd minute, rounding off a decent passing move. James Constable played the full 90 minutes, and even took the captain's armband after Russell Penn was substituted in the 78th minute. In terms of scouting for new players, United could do worse than look at Penn, Darius Charles, Scott Laird, and Sean Newton.

Oxford have announced their first home pre-season friendly. It will be against QPR on Friday 24 July. United tried to play Rangers in a friendly last summer, but the game had to be cancelled after the Stadium Company revealed it had pre-booked a wedding party on the same date. Hopefully communications between landlord and tenant have improved in the interim.

Former winger Craig Nelthorpe, released by United at the end of the season, today signed for York City. He was also a target of Mansfield Town boss David Horsfield, but he claimed that Nelthorpe was asking too much money.
