Jack’s up

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Oxford yesterday signed out-of-contract Histon striker Jack Midson. Midson, it will be remembered, scored a wonderful offside goal that was allowed to stand when United beat Histon 2-1 at the Kas earlier in the season. Midson is the second new player signed by Chris Wilder this summer, following the permanent arrival of James Constable, plus the signing on one-year deals of out-of-contract pair Kevin Sandwith and Shane Killock. Midson joins on a two-year deal.

Meanwhile, the Exeter Express and Echo claims that out-of-contract former Wycombe midfielder Jack Obersteller is to join United on a trial this summer. In addition, there are strong (albeit internet driven) rumours that the Us are about to sign Crawley midfielder Dannie Bullman. Who knows, maybe they're even true.

And finally, the curtain finally came down on the Conference season today with the play-off final between Cambridge United and Torquay United. Former Oxford midfielder Chris Hargreaves gave Torquay the lead after half an hour, while former Oxford forward Tim Sills doubled the score 15 minutes from time. Former Oxford defender Phil Bolland was dismissed for two yellow cards before Torquay's promotion was confirmed, meaning a nice trip to the Abbey next season. Again.
