Roll out the Farrell

Oxford United 3 Barrow 0

Three second-half goals earned Oxford a deserved win over Barrow this afternoon. Substitute Craig Farrell started the ball rolling in the 62nd minute, with Lewis Haldane netting the second in the 79th minute, and second substitute Yemi Odubade completing the job five minutes from time. The first half was fairly uneventful, enlivened only by a minor flare up involving Craig Nelthorpe and Natt Kerr that saw both men receive bookings, and then an incident when Kerr tripped Haldane and the referee gave him a second yellow card, but with no red card following. The official claimed later that he had, in fact, booked Marcus Holness, but no one believes him. The closest either side came to a goal was when Alan Martin had to drop smartly to save a Haldane shot.

United started the second half immediately on the front foot, with Martin making an excellent save from Farrell with his foot inside the second minute. Farrell had two chances soon after, shooting over from the first and then misconnecting with the second. Haldane shot narrowly over before Martin made a fine save from a Chris Carruthers drive. The rebound fell to Adam Chapman, five yards out, but the midfielder sidefooted the ball into the side netting. United made the breakthrough when James Constable slipped the ball through to Farrell, who neatly placed the ball beyond Martin
