Open for business

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Oxford United held their annual open day today, with over 2,000 people braving the wind and occasional showers. The players trained and played, with new signings Joe Burnell and Chris Carruthers joining in. Also involved were the transfer-listed duo Eddie Hutchinson and Alex Jeannin, possibly indicating a change of heart by manager Darren Patterson. Patto himself was busy speaking with Lewis Haldane, a winger from Bristol Rovers, who is likely to sign for the club on Monday (last-minute hitches notwithstanding).

Also on show today was next season's new home shirt, modeled by the players and Lyndsey Fayle, the current Miss Oxford. The shirt is very similar to last season's blue away shirt (except it's yellow, obviously), but unfortunately kit manufacturers Carlotti were unable to deliver enough stock for it to be sold on the day.

There were also various stallholders in attendance, including OxVox and Ultimate Yellows. The Supporters Trust signed up a number of new members, while the Ultimates took several orders for flags, so expect a sea of Yellow in the East Stand next season. All in all, a successful and enjoyable day.
