From Northwich to Southend

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, November 11th, 2007

After a long wait for a home FA Cup draw, Oxford United have now been handed their second successive home tie. United were the first team to be pulled out of the box in the live draw, and they were given a tie against Southend United. The third ball out was Swindon Town, who therefore had a lucky escape, being eliminated instead by the winners of the replay between Forest Green Rovers and Rotherham United.

Southend[@opponent]southend united[/@opponent] beat Rochdale United 2-1 at Roots Hall in the first round to set up their dream tie. The Shrimpers are currently fifth in the Third Division, having been relegated from Division Two last season. The tie is due to be played on Saturday 1 December, which means United's home game against Weymouth will need to be rearranged. The Terras will be away to Cambridge United in the second round.

In today's first round games, Forest Green Rovers drew 2-2 at home to Rotherham, despite having been 2-0 up. Torquay United beat Yeovil Town 4-1, although thankfully none of their four former Oxford players scored. The Gulls were rewarded with a home tie against either Cheltenham Town or Brighton & Hove Albion.
