Time for the resurrection

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, April 8th, 2007

After a run of four games without a win, the last two goalless, it is imperative that United revive their play-off quest against Weymouth at Minchery Farm tomorrow.[@opponent]Weymouth[/@opponent] The Terras were the first team this season to take any points off United, following the sides' 1-1 draw on the south coast on August Bank Holiday[@report]263[/@report], but that was a long time ago, and both teams have seen their season falter since, Weymouth's even more dramatically than Oxford's.[@connection]Weymouth[/@connection]

Jim Smith will have to make at least one change from the side that lost at Northwich Victoria yesterday, with Rufus Brevett's dismissal rendering him ineligible for three matches. Gavin Johnson should be fit to replace him, although Smith may prefer to leave Eddie Anaclet in the side and move Matt Day over to the left. Andy Burgess should also be fit again to resume midfield duties, but if any of the midfielders are dropped after yesterday's second half that would be harsh. Danny Rose is the most likely to make way, simply because both he and Burgess play in similar positions. Although there were no injuries incurred yesterday, we are unlikely to see the same strikeforce after Yemi Odubade virtually ran himself into the ground, and Marvin Robinson managed the opposite scenario, so a starting duo of Rob Duffy and Chris Zebroski is likely.

Weymouth have also gone four games without a win, their 1-1 home draw with Kidderminster Harriers yesterday halting a run of three successive defeats, during which the Terras shipped 12 goals, scoring just one. This has seen their play-off bid just about cease, and hopefully United should be able to take advantage, even though Weymouth now feature former United triallist Stuart Beavon, who has scored six goals in 17 appearances, and who will have his own Didcot Town fan club in attendance. Rage Online has learned enough from watching United not to be stupidly optimistic, and we're going to heed that lesson by predicting a 1-1 draw. Or is that being stupidly optimistic?

As usual for Easter Monday, there will be a full programme of fixtures, with champions Dagenham & Redbridge travelling to fifth-bottom Cambridge United. Of more interest to United supporters is Morecambe's game at home to Halifax. Morecambe are third, behind United just on goal difference, while the Shaymen are one place above Cambridge. York City, in fourth, are at home to Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday, while fifth-placed Exeter City visit Crawley Town tomorrow. Burton Albion, in sixth place, travel to second-bottom Southport, while seventh-placed Gravesend & Northfleet face a trip to Altrincham. Stevenage Borough journey to Forest Green Rovers, while Aldershot entertain Stafford Rangers.
