The March begins

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, March 2nd, 2007

The busy footballing month of March begins for Oxford with the visit of Stevenage Borough[@opponent]Stevenage Borough[/@opponent] tomorrow. As with all the remaining games, if United are to harbour any hopes of overhauling Dagenham & Redbridge, ten points clear at the top of the Conference, then this is another must-win fixture. The match at Broadhall way on 2 December ended 2-2[@report]284[/@report], after Borough had taken a 2-0 half-time lead, but then had Hasim Deen and Luke Oliver sent off. Rob Duffy and Chris Hargreaves scored Oxford's goals.

Jim Smith will be unable to field an unchanged side for the third consecutive game, as Hargreaves was booked in the 3-1 win at Tamworth last Saturday to make it five for the season. Andy Burgess is his most likely replacement, although Carl Pettefer is also available. Barry Quinn, who has been playing at right back for the last few games, was injured at Tamworth, and so Matt Day stands by to replace him, although new signing Luke Foster will be looking to make his debut. The rest of the side is likely to be unchanged, leaving Duffy and Yemi Odubade to continue their prolific partnership up front.

Stevenage[@connection]Stevenage Borough[/@connection] are seventh in the Conference, nine points behind United but with two games in hand. However, they are currently third in the current form table and so Oxford will have to be at their best to earn the three points, although they are not without their own problems, as leading scorer Steve Morison, with 18 goals, is suspended and won't be able to play. Borough have never visited Oxford before for anything other than a reserve fixture, and with the enormity of the game for both clubs, Rage Online can see the points being shared again. In fact, we wouldn't rule out another 2-2 draw.

League leaders Dagenham have a trip to third-bottom Southport, and will be hopeful of maximum points, although we're hopeful that they will also soften up the Sandgrounders for Oxford's visit there on Tuesday. Third-placed Exeter City have a trip to Rushden & Diamonds, who will play their first match under new manager Garry Hill. Fourth-placed York City welcome Forest Green Rovers to KitKat Crescent, while Gravesend & Northfleet, in fifth place, visit Kidderminster Harriers, whose recent excellent form has come to an end.

Bottom club Tamworth travel to Northwich Victoria, while second-bottom Altrincham visit eighth-placed Burton Albion tonight. St Albans, who occupy the fourth relegation spot, are away to sixth-placed Morecambe, while 20th-placed Grays Athletic travel to Weymouth, who have now dropped to 11th. Ninth-placed Aldershot visit Crawley, who would be ninth if it wasn't for their ten-point deduction; Stafford Rangers play Cambridge United, while Woking welcome Halifax Town.
