Tonight's Conference fixtures brought mixed, but mostly bad, news for United's promotion aspirations. Despite going a goal down at Kidderminster, Dagenham & Redbridge thrashed the Harriers 4-1 to move ten points clear of Oxford at the top of the league. Dagenham also have a +12 goal difference on United, and it now looks to be a very tough task for the Yellows to earn promotion via the automatic route.
This evening's other results were slightly kinder to the Us. Fourth-placed Gravesend & Northfleet looked to be overcoming Saturday's defeat at Oxford. Although they went a goal down at Woking, they came back to lead 2-1, only for highly rated Guiseppe Sole to score a last-minute equaliser for the Cards. This leaves Fleet four points behind United, but having played the same number of games. Fifth-placed Exeter City were also held to a draw, as Rushden & Diamonds continued their recent revival to earn a 0-0 result at St James Park. Wayne Hatswell was booked for the Diamonds.
Stevenage Borough are now only one point behind Exeter after their 3-1 win at Stafford Rangers, while United's next opponents, Tamworth, remain firmly rooted to the foot of the Conference after losing 1-0 at seventh-placed Burton Albion, who are level on points with Stevenage. Tamworth had Taiwo Atieno sent off, although we don't know yet whether or not he will be suspended for the visit of Oxford on Saturday. Weymouth's decline continued with a 4-1 thrashing at Halifax Town, despite Stuart Beavon giving the Terras a second-minute lead, while Altrincham remain in the relegation zone, despite a last-minute equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Northwich Victoria.
