Leyland Daft Trophy

United entertain Bournemouth at the KasStad tomorrow evening in a match that is almost certain to break the lowest attendance record for a competitive game at the ground, despite season ticket holders getting in free, kids getting in for a quid and other ticket prices reduced (although not by enough). The game is the first round of the LDV Trophy, a somewhat pointless competition designed to compensate Second and Third Division clubs (and this year, for the first time, some Conference teams) for early elimination from the proper cups. Obviously irrelevant to United this season.

Although some clubs cling to the belief that this tournament offers them a more realistic opportunity to experience the giddy heights of a Wembley (ie Cardiff – not quite the same somehow) cup final in front of a two-thirds empty stadium, Rage Online clings to the equally naive hope that Ian Atkins will use this game as a chance to give some of the squad's fringe players a go, such as starts for ROS Chris Hackett and Pauly Powell and whatever uninjured strikers we have lying around, maybe give Roy Hunter a go in midfield and, why not, Simon Cox a go in goal. We should at least see Steve Basham given half a game up front.

Bournemouth are currently second in the league, but who gives a damn really. Rage Online prediction is a dull 6-5 win to United – go on, bet on it!
