The swinging sixties

According to today's Oxford Mail sixty applications have been received already for the vacant manager's post, which hasn't been advertised, including a number with Premiership experience. Amongst the names speculatively mentioned which haven't been connected with the post before are Ray Harford, Dave Merrington, Mike Walker, Terry Butcher, Bobby Gould and Roy Hodgson although, as the Mail points out, it's not their experience which counts so much as whether they will be able to work on a tight budget, and presumably on lowish salaries.

Former U's

Darren Purse was sent off in the 89th minute as Birmingham drew 2-2 at Portsmouth; John Durnin scored Blackpool's second to put them 2-0 up against Wigan, although the final score was 2-2; Mark Stein scored the only goal as Bournemouth beat Cardiff; Howard Forinton scored Peterborough's third as they beat Shrewsbury 4-1.
