David Kemp, formerly assistant manager at Portsmouth and Crystal Palace, has been appointed United boss on the recommendation of Joe Kinnear, who has joined the board as Director of Football on a full time basis until the end of the season at least. In a press conference held this afternoon at the Priory and ? (yes, that is its real name) it was also revealed that Kemp's assistant is to be former Millwall half-boss Alan McLeary. Kinnear will be responsible for buying (and presumably selling) players and negotiating contracts etc, whilst Kemp's duties will involve team selection, tactics and coaching. Mickey Lewis will almost certainly return to managing the reserves with Mike Ford stepping down from his somewhat unsuccessful time as caretaker to resume his youth team duties. Denis Smith's future is more uncertain, Smith himself admitting that with Kinnear being full-time there is little for him to do at the club unless Kassam requires him to do some scouting.
