Cheltenham up

There will be no league trip to Whaddon Road next season following Cheltenham's 3-1 win over Rushden & Diamonds in the Third Division Play Off final at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon. Unfortunately this means that there will be a trip to Nene Park, Irthlingborough, again but at least we won't have to endure those excuses for toilets the other side of the Cotswolds.

Rumours have it that Ian Atkins has spoken to a couple of Halifax players with a view to bringing them to Oxford. The players concerned are midfielder Paul Harsley, who scored twelve goals this season (including the one in their 6-1 defeat at Oxford), and ten goal striker Ian Fitzpatrick. Halifax are financially strapped and have released all bar one of their players from their contracts, the one exception being player-manager Neil Redfearn. Halifax this weekend had to persuade a FA committee that they will be able to fulfill their fixtures next season, having gone into adminstration on April 12th and losing £7,000 a month. Meanwhile severance payments have been agreed with 21 of the 28 released players.
