Goodnight Knight, in the bin Quinn

United today terminated the contracts of two more players, goalkeeper Richard Knight and midfielder Rob Quinn. Knight joined United from Derby two seasons ago and in his first full season won the supporters Player of the Season trophy, not that he had a lot of competition. Many Oxford fans would have preferred Knight to stay on as Andy Woodman's understudy, but as his wages were presumably considerably higher than Ian McCaldon's then it's no surprise that he was the unlucky 'keeper to lose out.

Quinn arrived from Brentford at the same time as Andy Scott, in November 2000. Despite coming with high recommendations from Bees fans Quinn never really did the business for Oxford. United fans will generally not be sorry to see him go.

Manor down

The demolition men moved in to the Manor site yesterday and started knocking down the London Road stand. United's home since 1925 is now biting the dust – the Beech Road will follow until there will be no more football ground, just a sterile private hospital and a few nurses' flats. Part of the planning condition was that some kind of memorial to the football club be included in the development, so we'll be watching out for that with interest.
