Summer space filler

Ian Ashbee, recently released by Cambridge and spoken to by Oxford, has also spoken to Northampton and is now subject to interest from Hull City. Ashbee lived in Barnet and claims that might be a factor in making up his mind, but is apparently impressed by Hull's ambition.

Lee Hodges, also linked with United since being released by Scunthorpe, is now also interesting Southend. Meanwhile Mark Wright is expected to be about to make a move to take Wayne Hatswell to the Deva.

Former Us doing well include Paul Kee, who won the Northern Ireland First Division Manager of the Year award for his work with Institute FC, whose youth team won the IFL Youth League. Andre Arendse won the South African Castle Premiership Footballer of the Season award having won the championship with Santos, something that will do his chances of playing in the World Cup finals no harm at all, which is a bit frightening really.
