Following Port Vale's 1-0 victory at Colchester last night United are now 20 points below the fifth from bottom team (swindon). With a maximum 39 points available to United from their remaining 13 games there remains a very slight possibility that the U's may yet stay up. Of course, realistically, it's not going to happen although with games still to come against swindon, Port Vale, Luton, Bristol Rovers, Cambridge United and Swansea it is still possible for the U's to at least make a bit of a show of attempting to avoid the drop, or at least last place. With Swansea also winning last night, 2-1 at Stoke, United are now eleven points behind the penultimate team, so even finishing off the bottom is becoming less likely as this most forgettable of seasons draws to a close.
