Townsley in the frame

Townsley in the frame

Oxford United are on the verge of signing Derek Townsley, who is currently out of contract from Hibernian. Townsley is 6'5″ and 30 years old, and is generally a right-sided midfielder although he also plays in defence on occasion. He has turned down interest from Aberdeen and Falkirk because of his desire to move south. He was on the bench a lot for Hibs, and was booed a lot when he was with Motherwell, although he is well thought of by Hibs fans. Once, during a drunken Hibee night out at a strip club, he fell asleep in his seat while the other players “cavorted”.

Meanwhile goalscoring sensation Steve Anthrobus has moved from his phenomenally successful spell at the might TNS to link up with former United players Les Robinson and Kevin Francis at Hednesford Town, where Brian Horton started his illustrious career. Hednesford play in the Doctor Martens Premier League, but with the acquisition of Anthrobus must be looking forward to plummeting down the pyramid.
