Alsop's another
Following swiftly on from Derek Townsley, the similarly sized Julian Alsop signed for the Us today, also on a two year contract. Alsop spent three years at Cheltenham and before that was at Swansea. His arrival, along with Townsley, surely indicates that Ian Atkins is not yet ready to adopt a short passing game. It has been postulated that where other managers keep files of players according to their position, Atkins has an Excel spreadsheet of players sorted in order of height.
Savo's mystery club
The
Southend official web site today reports that manager Steve Wignall was hopeful of signing Dave Savage, but that the United midfielder will be signing for another club. That other club hasn't been identified, but unconfirmed rumours suggest that it might be Orient.
Meanwhile the rumours connecting Simon King with Bristol Rovers were strengthened today by a report in the Western Daily Press.
