On This Day
January 3rd is generally FA Cup 3rd round day, and in 1975 United were knocked out of the competition by Leicester at Filbert Street 3-1, with Derek Clarke scoring United's consolation. The following season Clarke scored again as United lost 2-1 at Old Trafford to Manchester Utd in front of a crowd of over 41,000. In 1983 it was a league fixture that was won by United, thrashing Reading 3-0 at Elm Park, thanks to two George Lawrence goals. More recently, in 1998, this was the rainy day that United went to Elland Road and were beaten 4-0 by Leeds in the FA Cup.

More details on the Acland Hospital planning proposal for the Manor Ground site, objections to it and some good background information on the various covenants on the Manor and numerous other pertinent details can be found on www.headington.org.uk which also includes information about the local residents association meeting due to take place this Monday.
A couple of broadsheets carried stories on United which may have been missed, coming as they did just before christmas. The Daily Telegraph of December 18th had a lengthy report on the Northampton victory entitled Kinnear seeks Oxford salvation by former Oxford Times journalist John Ley. Just a few days later, on 23rd December, the Independent printed a long feature by Clive White entitled Kemp treads long road to restore Oxford's pride which doesn't tell us much that we don't already know but is interesting nonetheless. These links all appear on the new U's Stories page.
