On This Day |
In 1974 United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City, losing 5-2 at the Manor. Of far greater significance this was the date that, in 1990, second division United visited first division Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and won 3-1, thanks to goals from Lee Nogan, John Durnin and Jim Magilton. The attendance was 14,586 and the United team was: Veysey, Robinson, Smart, McClaren, Foster, Melville, Magilton, Phillips, Durnin, Nogan, Simpson. |
United left back Neil McGowan has apparently turned down the chance to return to Scotland by refusing an approach from Scottish Division Two leaders Partick Thistle. Why McGowan wants to stay at the Manor when he is playing second fiddle to a non-league centre-back is unclear, but fair play to him for sticking by the U's.
One player who didn't even make it to the Manor, Jamaican international striker Onandi Lowe not turning up for his trial, is on the verge of signing for Brian Horton's Port Vale, just in time to score the winner against United in the rearranged fixture, now due to take place in Oxford on Tuesday March 13th.
