United's season over

In the third round of the Auto Windscreens Shield at Brentford tonight Oxford lost 2-0 to end their interest in the 'competition'. Second half goals from Dave Bryan (who broke his leg in the process) and Andy Scott were enough, with Oxford offering little threat in return. Changes from Saturday's line-up included Rob Folland returning to right wing-back to replace the injured Paul Powell, with Neil McGowan returning to left wing back; Ross Weatherstone replaced Steve Davis; Jon Shepheard came into the back three as Joey Beauchamp was dropped to the bench; Derek Lilley was on instead of Steve Anthrobus; and of course Pål Lundin came back in for loanee Richard Knight. Beauchamp came on for Weatherstone, who was stretchered off in the first half and Ben Abbey replaced Lilley with fifteen minutes to go with the score at 1-0. There was no bookings by referee Paul Danson who denied United a blatant penalty when Jamie Cook was brought down when clean through. A match report reveals not much more.

The Stein machine

Former United mini-forward Mark Stein scored Bournemouth's equaliser at Ashton Gate as they drew 1-1 with Bristol City in the AWS.
