Divisional round-up
Despite not having a game today United remained third in the Third, although not all the results went Oxford's way. Hartlepool extended their lead at the top of the division by kindly beating fifth placed Torquay which, assuming we consider Pool's lead to be unassailable, is a good result. Second placed Rushden were held at home 1-1 by bottom club Swansea. Scunthorpe, in fourth, lost 2-1 at Wrexham, who climbed up to eighth, four points behind Oxford but with two games in hand. Bournemouth went up to seventh after coming from behind to beat Boston 2-1, with both goals for the home side coming in the last minute after Mark Angel had tried to do Oxford a favour by giving the Pilgrims the lead. The Cherries are now just three point behind the Us with two games in hand. Southend climbed up to tenth position after their 3-0 demolition of Hull City
At the other end of the table Bristol Rovers remained third bottom after going down 2-1 at home to relegation rivals Carlisle. Exeter dropped a place to fourth bottom after Nigel Jemson scored a penalty to give Shrewsbury a point at St James Park. York, in ninth, are at home to Macclesfield tomorrow. Macc are hoping to sign former United midfielder Dave Smith from Drogheda this week.
Marco Gabbiadini scored Northampton's first goal in their 3-3 draw at Crewe, and former Us defender Phil Gilchrist scored an own goal at Maine Road, but West Brom still beat Manchester City 2-1.
Gigg's off
