United's eleven game unbeaten run came to a crashing halt at Bournemouth, who tonked us 4-0 just a week after their 5-1 hammering at Notts County. Bournemouth's goals were scored by Steve Fletcher, a Stephen Henderson penalty conceded by Neil McGowan, Claus Jorgensen and James Hayter. United's starting line-up included Steve Davis in place of Ross Weatherstone and Jamie Cook replaced the suspended Steve Anthrobus. Neil McGowan was sent off for “serious foul play”, aiming an elbow at Hayter, and faces a three match ban. Phil Whelan was substituted by Paul Powell and then a double substitution saw Peter Fear and Kevin Francis, making his first appearance of the season, on for Matt Murphy and Joey Beauchamp. If one more person had attended the game the attendance would have been numerologically significant, as it was just 4,443 were there. This result leaves United in 16th place, just three points above the relegation zone. As always there's a match report.
The younger brother of former Oxford “star” Lee Nogan has been linked with a move to United. Kurt, currently out of favour at Preston, is rumoured to be a target of the U's as they desparately search for an answer to their striking problems. Mickey Lewis refused to confirm or deny United's interest in Nogan, but did say that Oxford wouldn't be rushing into making any signings and that we shouldn't expect new players immediately. Nogan was on the verge of being signed by Hull for £100,000 but failed to agree personal terms. Cardiff are also believed to be interested in the striker.
Former United players on the scoresheet today include Nick Cusack who netted Swansea's first as they beat Brighton 2-0, and Dean Saunders who opened the scoring for Bradford in their 2-0 win over Newcastle.
