Oxford somehow managed to scrape three points from an uninspiring encounter against Cambridge United at the Manor today. A goal seven minutes or so from time from Matt Murphy sealed the victory which up until then had looked extremely unlikely, despite Cambridge having been reduced to ten men after half an hour after Martin McNeil had been sent off for two bookable offences. United started with Arendse replacing Lundin in goal and without Mark Watson in defence, Paul Powell starting at left wingback with McGowan and Whelan each moving over one position to the right. In the second half Jamie Cook was replaced by Steve Anthrobus and Kevin Francis came on with ten minutes to go for Derek Lilley. Read the festive match report for more details.
In his first game for his new club John Durnin put Carlisle in front, but two second half goals gave Rochdale a 2-1 win.
