United made just one change from the Cheltenham victory, enforced by Jamie Brooks' injury, Andy Scott replacing him up front for his first game in nine weeks since his hamstring injury. However United were also suffering from illness and Dave Savage had to be replaced by Sam Ricketts before half time, feeling the effects of 'flu. In the second half Phil Gray came on for Paul Moody, who had received a head injury which required stitches, and later Manny Omoyinmi came on for the tiring Scott, after which United were at their most threatening (relatively speaking).
United's disciplinary record managed to notch up a few more points, as referee R. Pearson booked Savage as early as the second minute and went on to add the names of Dean Whitehead, Phil Bolland and Wayne Hatswell to his collection. The attendance of 9,552 was the highest that United have played in front of this season. A match report has now appeared here, better late than never!
This result sees United remain in 18th place, and Hull are now third. Leaders Plymouth were held to a 0-0 draw at Orient whilst second placed Mansfield, United's next opponents, beat Swansea 3-0. Halifax are now bottom following their 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield and Carlisle's 3-0 win over Scunthorpe. The only ex-U to find the net was Mark Stein, who scored Dagenham & Redbridge's first in their 2-2 draw at Southport.
