Derek Lilley has finally left United for Dundee United in a deal reputed to be worth about £100,000. Many U's supporters will be sad to see the back of Lilley for the 100% effort he gave, although many others will argue that it was to little effect, and with the ineffectual striker either refusing or unable to move up to Oxford from his home in Leeds his tenure at Oxford was always going to be a temporary one. Lilley is likely to make his debut against Rangers on Sunday – live on Sky Sports.
Also leaving the Manor today was promising under-19 and under-17 striker Jonathan (JP) Mills, who has joined Southampton in a deal which could allegedly be worth up to £750,000 to United, presumably dependent upon variables such as appearances, international caps and many other imponderables. One assumes, in the absence of statements to the contrary, that there was no fee paid upfront.
