Wrecked

United lost their first away game of the season, going down 1-0 to a late, 87th minute, goal scored by Hector Sam for the dominant Wrexham. The Us had few chances and were lucky to lose by just the odd goal, but defensively Oxford were a bit suspect and up front totally toothless.

United started with the same line-up as began against Bury but an injury to Manny Omoyinmi saw him replaced by Andy Scott in the 39th minute. Steve Basham came on for David Oldfield after 70 minutes and Bobby Ford was an injury time replacement for Dave Waterman.

Referee Mark Warren booked Waterman for a foul. The attendance was 3,599. A match report can be found here.

Not that it matters at this stage but United are now 9th in the division. Our next opponents, Darlington, drew 2-2 at home to Swansea. Former U Martin Thomas scored an injury time equaliser for Exeter as they drew 1-1 at home to Scunthorpe, whilst new boys Boston lost 2-0 at Hartlepool. The day's biggest winners in the Division were Rushden, who beat Torquay 3-0 and Leyton Orient also scored three, but Macclesfield got two in reply. Bristol Rovers and Hull drew 1-1 at the Memorial Ground whilst Bury lost their second game, going down 1-0 at home to Cambridge United. The other relegated club, Bournemouth, were held to a goalless draw at Dean Court by Kidderminster Harriers. Paul Simpson's Rochdale lost 2-0 at Lincoln, Southend lost 1-0 at home to Carlisle and York beat Shrewsbury 2-1.
