Some kind of win
United's second string beat Northampton's equivalent in a friendly game at Didcot Town this afternoon. After a goalless first half United scored through Lee Steele, who turned in Sam Okiokola's header from close range. United scored their second goal ten minutes from time when triallist striker
Royce Brownlie (formerly of Australian outfits Brisbane Lions and Marconi Stallions, where he played alongside Danny Invincible, and recently sought after by Sheffield Wednesday) fired home. There was still time for an impressive Chris Hackett to hit the bar and force a good save from the Cobblers' goalie.
United's side included most of the players who require more match fitness, such as Bobby Ford, Steve Basham, Andy Scott, Steele and Paul Powell. Also playing were Ian McCaldon in goal, Sam Stockley, Sam Ricketts and Simon King in defence, and with appearances from Jefferson Louis, Michael Alexis, Rob Lovegrove and, very briefly, Norman Sylla.
