Davies wavers?

Following reports that Steve Davis was on the verge of signing a one year contract with Oxford United it appears that this might have been somewhat premature. Radio Oxford this evening reports Denis Smith as saying that Davis will not be playing for Oxford this season. Phew, that was close! Speculation is now mounting as to whether this means that either Mark Watson or Anders Jacobsen will be joining the club after all. Certainly Smith was doing himself no favours in the popularity stakes by signing Davis instead of either of these two, but then popularity was never Smith's driving motivation.

This is confirmed by the fact that he is talking to former swindon goalkeeper Jimmy Glass about signing for the club following his “successful trial” last night at Hereford. The fact that he is a former swindon player is less relevant than the fact that he is almost universally derided as crap by their supporters, and apparently his kicking was appalling at Edgar Street.

Money's too tight to mention

Rage Online has learned that severe cost cutting measures have been implemented by United in recent weeks. It is thought that these measures have impacted on just about every aspect of the club, from merchandise in the shop through to the number of free match tickets being offered to the club's service providers and sponsors. Whilst Rage Online supports any measure which saves the club money, and stops others from freeloading, we are also concerned that this might lead to a negative relationship with some of the club's suppliers. One trusts that this was taken into account before the efficiency drive took place?
