A case of two halves

Ross Weatherstone appeared in court today on a charge of assaulting a Reading taxi driver. Allegedly the driver picked up Weatherstone and some of his friends from Reading station to take them to Woodcote, but turned back when the passengers began to racially abuse him. The glass partition seperating the driver from the fares was then kicked out and he was grabbed from behind by his pullover, apparently causing him to lose conciousness and crash his cab. The driver then came to and realised he was being kicked on the ground and verbally abused by one or more of his passengers. The case is expected to conclude tomorrow and the result is awaited with interest, or more especially the reaction of the club to the result, especially if a guilty verdict is recorded (which of course we hope is not the case).

The fall and fall of Eddie Newton

Eddie Newton's career continued its spectacular nosedive today with the news that he has joined third division Barnet on a one month contract. This means that Newton has gone through each of the divisions with each successive club he has played for, beginning with Chelsea, through Birmingham, via United, to Barnet. Is somebody trying to tell him something?
