Pointless August

United lost 3-2 at Walsall after being twice ahead from two well-taken Joey Beauchamp strikes in the 3rd and 33rd minutes. Paul Hall scored the first equaliser after 15 minutes, and Jorge Leitao made it 2-2 shortly into the second half. United, playing 5-4-1 with Steve Anthrobus as the lone striker, brought in Beauchamp in place of Matt Murphy, but otherwise retained the side which started against Wolves and Brentford. Paul Powell received a back injury and was replaced by the Rage On sponsored Rob Folland. Murphy did come on, in place of Dean Whitehead, and Derek Lilley came on for Beauchamp. Both John Robertson and Paul Tait were booked in the first half for no apparent reason by referee Peter Walton. Brett Angell scored the Saddlers' winner about five minutes from time in front of a nicely consecutive 5,678 crowd. A match report has appeared here.
