A 78th minute goal from Andy Scott secured a point for United at Kenilworth Road to give Rage Online a rare correct prediction (see below). Junior Watts had put Luton ahead from an 18th minute corner. The Hatters' failure to win almost certainly ensures that they will follow Oxford into the Third Division next season, sadly denying Joe Kinnear his hefty bonus.
United recalled Paul Powell to the starting line-up in place of Joey Beauchamp and Matt Murphy started instead of Robert Quinn. Peter Fear replaced the injured Paul Tait about ten minutes before half-time and the now traditional change of Beauchamp for Powell took place mid-way through the second half.
Darren Patterson, Wayne Hatswell and Sam Ricketts were all booked for United. The attendance was 6,010 and a match report can be found here.
swindon unfortunately won at Brentford to take them six points clear of Bristol Rovers, who lost at Port Vale last night. Rovers still have three games in hand. Swansea beat Wycombe 3-1 tonight to go nine points clear of United
United visit Luton tonight with fitness doubts over Robert Quinn, Paul Powell, Manny Omoyinmi and Chris Hackett. As a result it is likely that Matt Murphy will start alongside Paul Tait in the centre of midfield and Joey Beauchamp could retain his starting place on the left wing. Phil Gray and Andy Scott are the likeliest striking attacking partnership whilst the defence will probably remain unchanged.
With relegation now settled for Oxford and Luton still struggling United should be reasonably relaxed. With the added incentive of trying to put one over on turncoat Joe Kinnear Rage Online reckons that United should be good enough to secure a 1-1 draw.
