Oxford conceded their 100th goal of the season as they lost 2-0 to Reading at the Manor. Goals from Jamie Cureton in the 20th minute and Martin Butler in the 71st, the pair's 50th and 51st of the season, were enough to do for an extraordinarily gutless United side. The U's kept the same starting line-up which began at Wigan but rang the changes in the second half when Manny Omoyinmi replaced Phil Gray, Paul Powell came on for Sam Ricketts and Wayne Hatswell went off for Steve Anthrobus. Joey Beauchamp was booked by referee Steve Lodge. The attendance was a nicely palindromic 6,886 and Chris Day has written a match report.
Cambridge showed that they're still keen to join United in the Third Division next season by losing 5-1 at home to Millwall, whilst Colchester and Peterborough shared a point in a 2-2 draw at Layer Road. This leaves Cambridge on 48 points with swindon, but having played a game fewer, and Colchester are now four points above them with 52 points and having played one game fewer than Cambridge.
