Hooliganism Again

Post by Mally »

According to today's Non-League Paper (page 2) the Altrincham supporters coach (incidentally owned by Alty chairman Geoff Goodwin) was attacked as it tried to eave the Kas-stad the other week. Did I miss this being reported locally or was it hushed up? As I left the East car park I remember Jerome saying something about Altrincham fans going on the pitch - was this connected in any way?

Perhaps its just our new-found &quotcelebrity&quot status in the conference that puts the focus on us more but it does seem that there is an increase in these sort of incidents this season.

I certainly hope this is not true.

If Altricham fans went on to the pitch they should have been arrested and charged should they not?

Isn't Geoff Goodwin the Chairman who wanted us thrown out of the Conference for only having a three sided ground?

There were comments on this on TiU last week. It sounds as if trouble started inside the stand as Oxford 'fans' reacted verbally to Altrincham provocation following the penalty. This continued outside where there were some minor skirmishes, followed by a few things thrown at the coach.

I believe this was true, though whether it was our fans or local yobs who perpetrated these actions, I've not been able to establish. As I said on the AltyFans forum, either way these are scenes we do not want our club to be linked with.

There was a little more than Mally knows about as well. Once the stewards had protected the Alty Fans by closing a gate, about 50 or so youths ran around the entire stadium, pursued by more stewards, trying to get to the Alty fans from the other side. These youths really were scum of the Earth types, hollering all sorts of abuse at the stewards from ages I would guess maybe 10 to 16.

My understanding is that those who attacked the Alty coach, were NOT youths but established middle aged hoolies.

I suspect the effect this will bring is policing at every Oxford game. There were none for the Alty game, even though some Alty fans have a bit of a reputation. A mistake by the club I think.

It would be well worthwhile the club devoting some resources to try to stamp out this problem, by providing police and additional stewarding cover so that yobs can be arrested and d/w properly in the courts.
