I wasn’t there, Jerome.
I wasn’t there, Jerome.
But on the telly I probably had a better view of the game than the RadOx team did. That very public spectacle is not going to help entice people back to Minchery Farm.
OMG, WTF has happened to Oxford United?

Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
Does anyone truly believe that Appleton is capable of turning this around? Are there any indicators that suggest we will improve? We're in real trouble.
Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
Simply embarrassing. So our nice brand of football is essentially dicking around with it at the back, passing to a midfielder who knocks it back. We then try and get it down the wings get a cross in but no bugger is getting in the box to get on the end of them. As for our marking at the back - there wasn't any time and time again they got in between our centre backs and had plenty of space - welcome to the revolution.
This football club is on it's knees at the moment, we've a manager with an awful record, owners who have no connection with the club and seem to be in it because they want to play at being football club owners for a bit and fans who want a manager out when we're in the top four but sing the praises of us trying to play football even if it is totally ineffective. After 11 games we sit second from bottom and have been well and truly stuffed by Cambridge United for fucks sake.
Fans will continue to drift away after seeing that rubbish and I and plenty of others are simply fed up with being an Oxford fan at the moment and just won't waste any more money on it.

I like that.
Passing to a midfielder who knocks it back.
Ditto. So long as you don’t fuck up then it frustrates the opposition to come onto you, and that leaves gaps in their midfield for a Peter Leven type pass.
We then try and get it down the wings to get a cross.
Fab.
But no bugger is getting in the box to get on the end of them.
He’s gone to Eastleigh.

The same as Man U in the Prem. The difference is they have millions of quid to fix their back four in January.

Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
I would love our 'pretty' football to succeed, but what's the point in all this patient build up in getting the ball from Clarke to a winger, who then sends it in hope, rather than precision, high towards the penalty area, if we've only got one player there? Now if we had a Peter Crouch sized target man that would make sense, with another forward nearby to feed off any knock downs. Cutting edge wing play involves getting to the goal line in order to then include the possible pull back for an oncoming supporting midfielder to get in a shot on goal. Time and again, we see teams making this game appear what it is; simple! It's not rocket science.
If Raynes' shot had been an inch more to the right and we had gone in 2-2,...
There must be enough know-how in our coaching staff (& senior players) to analyse where mistakes were made for all 5 goals, and do something about it
Not looking forward to the Tranmere game, but I am an optimist, and experience has told me that anything can happen; even with Oxford!
This season is not going to be the carpet ride we hoped for, but a roller coaster ride, with many twists along the way. We just need to support the players, however angry we all feel about the management.

Bring back the black away shirt!
Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.

Having been at the Abbey for yesterday's debacle it was yet another case of Oxford not winning
battles all over the pitch and being out manoeuvred and out muscled in critical areas.
Mullins and Raynes just did not deal with Elliott and Appiah although there seemed
no midfield player(s) sitting at the base of our midfield offering any protection.
In fact Raynes and Mullins were rag dolled all match - it was woeful stuff.
We were flimsy and so slow on to second balls.
Cambridge were able to play through us
at will, even when 0-1 down and it was a worrying afternoon,
and I have to say, honestly, that we look relegation candidates
and we must all recognise this.
Pretty football and possession: yes but winning football and results: no.
We struggle to score goals - Hylton excepted - and defensively there are big holes.
A recipe for disaster but does "Appy" have the know how to turn it around?
2014, so far has been an Annus Horribilis for Oxford United
which could see a fourth manager in post if things don't improve.
Oxford Utd v Tranmere Rovers next week won't be for the faint hearted.
Talk about a big match!
Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
Six months to save OUFC from extinction. But who's going to do it?
Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
Thames Valley Royals, builders “on their Christmas break” for two years, now the possibility of being £Xm in debt in the Conference with no assets.
Does anyone in their right mind think that WPL sold their shares (and lost control of the club) for considerably less than what they pumped into Oxford United without having the ‘soft’ debt turned into a very real and hard one? Where do you think Ian was yesterday - the Rugby Grand Final at Old Trafford or the Abbey Stadium?
Who ya gonna call? OxVox?????

Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
If we're on the road to extinction then I'd rather be on the highway than the byway. Let's get the catastrophe out of the way, have a meeting, then start again with a club owned, financed and controlled by the fans. And yes I know that we don't have a stadium but neither did Newport for many years - they had to go to Hereford to watch their team play - but look how they built their club back up and have solid foundations. No more saviors with questionable intent and 'soft' loans. Fan ownership and democracy now!

Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
I was there - not sure what to say really. Even when we were 1-0 up they were tearing through us at will. It was just a question of time. Danny Rose kept on seeming to be the most defensive midfielder, which is just not going to work - they went past him at will. Bringing Whing on was the right move, but far too late. I think we missed the double buffer (Collins and Ruffels in recent matches) protecting the defence.
Re: I wasn’t there, Jerome.
If I wanted to watch Hellenic League football I'd go and watch Hellenic League football now. By the time AFCOUFC got back to L2 I'd be dead (from old age). Oh, and didn't a Newport fan win 45 million on the Euro lottery?tomoufc wrote:If we're on the road to extinction then I'd rather be on the highway than the byway. Second of your points: yes that's true I believe, but I don't see the relevance to my overall point.Hog wrote:If I wanted to watch Hellenic League football I'd go and watch Hellenic League football now. The first of your points - since I live in Manchester I can go and watch FC United in the Northern Premier league. In fact I did so, and the 'matchday experience' was far, far better than anything I've seen at the Kassam except on a couple of occations when the stadium's been full and we've won. It reminded me of being at the Manor, where at the London Road I'd sing my heart out win, lose or draw. But I'm an Oxford United fan, and I want our club to survive. I can't see that happening without fan ownership. Yes it wouldn't be the same club legally, but the fans make a club, not the owners or the stadium. It's a shame you wouldn't be alive to see us return to league two, but you could bow out knowing that you've helped secure the future of the club you love so much for future generations of Oxfordians to enjoy.
The final point is: you may not have a choice anyway. The unsustainability of current arrangements are systemic rather than conjunctural, so it doesn't matter who owns us (unless they're a billionaire); we're fucked. And we're fucked because of what football has become and the way the economy has inflated land value in Oxfordshire. In that circumstance the choice would be watching no football in no league, or supporting Reading.

This vid about FC United's well worth a look, I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrR5e9NtV68

I really don't know if people are being alarmist. A couple of wins would make everything feel different. I know I'm actually enjoying home games again after Wilder nearly drove me away.
