Blimey! Must have been a very difficult time."SmileyMan" wrote:As I found out at the time (might have changed), they're not actually allowed to submit the fingerprints for checking against the database, until you've been charged, which is totally ridiculous."GodalmingYellow" wrote:Not sure I understand how you would be arrested for burglary on grounds of fingerprint evidence as fingerprints take time to identify, unless either the police already held your fingerprint data for a previous crime, or you were in the vicinity and arrested on suspicion, then charged for based on the dodgy fingerprinting."SmileyMan" wrote:Fingerprint evidence
Basically, there's a small-time scumbag who lives in Reading who has the same first name, second name and surname as me (I have an extra middle name). He'd been caught and fingerprinted before, but they'd mixed it up and linked it to me instead of him, so when they found his fingerprints on the Co-op window, they came and arrested me.
Despite the fact that I lived in Kent, and had a full-time job with the local council at the time, they concluded that I had decided to drive to Reading on the Sunday night, break into the Co-op, drive back to Kent, go to bed and get up for work the next morning as if nothing had happened.
Very scary at the time, despite knowing that you're innocent, because when the coppers get a fingerprint they basically ignore anything else, including the laws of physics and anything resembling common sense.
Ended up getting compensation for wrongful arrest, but it didn't really help much.

You don't even have to provide the black and white."boris" wrote:I find myself unable to separate cause and effect, I'm afraid. My world is a chaotic amalgam of different shades of grey. The why's and wherefore's are for the judge in determining sentence. Hence he is the judge(mental) one.
The Government sets the paramters.
The judge tells the jury what the parameters are.
The jury are just there to decide if the parameters have been met or not.
