Missed this at the time but apparently Josh Payne left Barnet by mutual consent in January 2022 and signed for Hayes and Yeading.

Due to a series of coincidences, I am in Belfast this weekend and ended up watching Linfield’s pre-season game against Newtown, with Joel Cooper featuring for the home side.

Despite him clearly being Linfield’s main focal point for their attacks, I thought he was very poor. Missed a sitter, squandered a great chance with a free kick that didn’t even clear the wall and did little else of note, despite playing a very average opposition. Can’t imagine we’ll miss him.

On a more general note, the standard of Linfield’s play was very very disappointing given they’re Northern Irish champions. Given the number of decent players we’ve had from that league, I had expected more. Yet despite all of that, Linfield apparently beat the Qatari national team in their last pre-season game - which doesn’t bode well for how Qatar might fare in the World Cup…

Pep Clotet was recently re-appointed as head coach at Serie B side Brescia after being sacked by fellow Serie B team SPAL who released him in January when they were three points above the relegation places
