9th February 1994 - United dramatically defeat Leeds United 3-2 at Elland Road after extra time
with the winning goal coming after a sublime chip over Whites 'keeper Mark Beeney from
gifted midfielder Jim Magilton. This 4th round replay meant the U's faced Chelsea in
Round five at the Manor.
The euphoria quickly evaporated as hours after the brilliant victory, United decided to sell
prized asset Magilton to Southampton for GBP 600,000 after the midfielder revealed
he would not sign a new contract. Magilton appeared 173 times in yelllow and blue
and scored 42 goals.
Henry Winter, for the Telegraph, wrote "the Manor Ground switchboard was immediately
inundated with calls from indignant supporters."
