Clutching at straws...
Clutching at straws...
Clutching at straws, because, let's face it, that's all we can do now...
Luton and Stevenage get involved in a fearsome race for the title, which goes right down to the last day with both capable of going up...
One team snatches a dramatic late goal/concedes a late equaliser/misses a late chance that would have sent them up on goal difference...
Leaving one completely psychologically broken team going into the play-offs...at least then we'd have a chance if we played against them...

My clutching at straws scenario is based on the fact that barring a really stupid set of results, the rest of our season is completely pressure off until the play offs, as we won't win the title.
Being able to play a settle side in a relaxed stress free way, may just get the confidence back for the play offs.

That's more or less what I'm hoping too."GodalmingYellow" wrote:My clutching at straws scenario is based on the fact that barring a really stupid set of results, the rest of our season is completely pressure off until the play offs, as we won't win the title.

Of course, once we reach the play-offs then the pressure will be back on and we'll bottle it - just hope we have the momentum to reach the final so at least we get a chance of fluking it.

Yes 100% Agree. Pressure is off now, over to Luton and Stevenage"boris" wrote:That's more or less what I'm hoping too."GodalmingYellow" wrote:My clutching at straws scenario is based on the fact that barring a really stupid set of results, the rest of our season is completely pressure off until the play offs, as we won't win the title.

Maybe the 12th Man Fund people could arrange for a case of Southern Comfort to be deliverered to Les Wells' house?
Yes, yes, Snake is barking mad.

Re: Clutching at straws...
Snake, you keep mentioning this, can't you just do it? Stick a card from all at OUFC on it. If it works, I'm sure the club would give you a free season ticket or something..."Snake" wrote:Disagree."YF Dan" wrote:Clutching at straws, because, let's face it, that's all we can do now...

Why are we 'clutching at straws'? Chances of going up have receded, yes, but they haven't disappeared!"YF Dan" wrote:Clutching at straws, because, let's face it, that's all we can do now...

Agreed. You're a supporter, why don't you do it?
Having watched the last five games, we'd get humped every weekend if we went up to the league.
Question is, do we consolidate and try again next season, which would be very very depressing. Or, do we try and go up, with an inadequate team just to get spit-roasted by better teams week in, week out. I was going to say "I'd hate to be the Hayes & Yeading of the League", but that wouldn't be appropriate either as they beat us.
You know what I mean though.
By the way, these are the comments of a new-ish fan and I could well be accused of not knowing what the **** I am talking about.

Anyone with the slightest knowledge of trend analysis can see that we are sinking and fast, there is no lifeboat coming to save us therefore what else do we have to cling to? the promise of the team earlier this season? you may as well wish for Jim Smith's team of the 80's both have long gone."Ascension Ox" wrote:Why are we 'clutching at straws'? You're an RBS banker right? Stop wasting time on non league football fora, you're working for me and the shareholders want a dividend pdq..

'Trend analysis' may be the big thing for the banking community but it has much to do with football as my mum's cooking.
Two wins in two games and the promotion dream is back on again, mark my words. Via the playoffs of course.
There's no chance of us not making the playoffs - even if the teams outside the top five go on barnstorming runs, we can still secure a place with just six more points.
And currently they're all as off the boil as we are.
I fully expect us to have secured a playoff place by the end of next Monday's game.

Re:
That would relax me no end. However, as someone said above somewhere or on another thread, we have got to avoid Luton (or Stevenage, one of whom who will finish second) in a two legger. For a start I don't think that I could handle going back to Kenilworth Road with even more riding on it. Then again, at least we wouldn't lose to them in the final, which really would be terrible as we'd be within 90 minutes of glory then...it's the hope that kills you after all."SmileyMan" wrote:There's no chance of us not making the playoffs - even if the teams outside the top five go on barnstorming runs, we can still secure a place with just six more points.

Against York and Rushden we've got a chance...YELLOWS!
