at least post the emails up here and on the Confguide forum! I'd love to read them...
I had a really strange thing happen to me on Wed. I'm off all this week and I was meeting my mate who lives in (London's famous) Covent Garden for a pint. I thought, as I was on me hols, that i'd wear my OUFC home shirt for my walk into town. Anyway, as my mate (and fellow OUFC fan) went into the pub to get a round in, an old guy walked up to me, pointed at a larger group of old guys and said "We're the Board of the Conference, we've just been with you club rep." So, I ended up having a little chat with him about moving games to the Sunday and how it wasn't only bad for the players to have to pkay on a Thurs and a Saturday, but would also be awful for the fans but still, moiving games to a Sunday was not an ideal solution either. He didn't seem to care.
When my mate came out of the pub, I poiunted out the old guys, smelling of mothballs, in their suits they'd clearly had for 30 years, and we came to the agreement that these people (one of whom was the Southport chairman, apparently??) were in no way representitve of wither the people involved in playing the game (i.e. the players) or the supporters. Oh, well...
Onwards with our Sunday League side that I now support...

This is madness. I don't see how you can move the Grays game when we are at home to Aldershot (probably the biggest gate of the season) on the saturday before (Sep 15th)."A-Ro" wrote:

September:
Sat 15th: Aldershot (h)
Tue 18th: Grays (a)
Thur 20th: Histon (a)
Both us and Histon have 3 games in 6 days (Histon have a home game on the tues night). and the worst thing is that it culminates in the TV game, which we'll be knackered for! Hardly prime viewing for the armchair football fan!
We have to complain about this, surely??

Surely, part of this has to be that Setanta is likely to hit OUFC disproportionately hard, because:
- as we are high profile, we may experience more TV games, and more fixture disruption - (and therefore more stress on the players?)
- if gates are hit, then a proportionate reduction in our gate costs us more than a proportionate reduction in Histon's
So what is the club's reaction to this? Are they talking to BSP?

Come on GY, you've just GOT to share those emails with us. Please!"GodalmingYellow" wrote:That reflects the email exchanges I had with Moules very well indeed.
And Moules was none too polite in his emails to me, about our esteemed manager either.
I'm tempted to send the emails to the current bun to see what fun they can have with them.
This is a really big issue for players and fans alike. Not fair on either.
Teams like us, Torquay, York and presumably Exeter too will be adversely affected. Time for a concerted action from fans groups from those teams hit hardest. Something for OxVox to get their teeth into?
How we can have an influence if Moules and the men in suits don't give a stuff will take some working out though.
And as for not revealling how much the clubs are going to get for the disruption is scandalous. But we've known for ages that football is corrupt and money rules okay - just didn't think it would filter down to non league, so quickly if at all.
Personally, this already has potential to cause some domestic grief, having made arrangements for Sunday 19th August. I went to every league game last season but somehow can't see me achieveing that again.
Now what was that quote from "That Magical Night" - "Everyone’s favourite suited w****r John Moules (chief executive of the BSP)"

Precisely because it's the top teams (at any given level) who get moved the most, there's perhaps not the usual big-teams-v-little-teams split on this, what annoys Oxford fans will annoy Manchester United and Liverpool fans too.
There's no reason why leagues shouldn't put a pre-season limit on how many games can be moved and no reason why fans shouldn't pressure them to do so. How many? Don't know, but the precise number isn't the point.

entirely disenchanted
Re:
And I must admit to having had sympathy for genuine Liverpool and Man U fans who have been mucked around over the years. But at least their clubs have received shed loads of money for the grief caused. At our level instead of shed loads we'll probably get an egg cup full of one pound coins which, won't even cover the loss of income through the turnstiles."Peña Oxford United" wrote:Precisely because it's the top teams (at any given level) who get moved the most, there's perhaps not the usual big-teams-v-little-teams split on this, what annoys Oxford fans will annoy Manchester United and Liverpool fans too.

Your second para is a very good idea. Too good and sensible for those running the game to even consider.

Quite. And as Setanta have now gone down the Sky Sports route and you can just sign up for a month and then drop it, I expect us to end up with televised games on a monthly basis. After all, it makes commercial sense for them to try and tie in the largest potential audience for the longest period possible."Old Abingdonian" wrote:Surely, part of this has to be that Setanta is likely to hit OUFC disproportionately hard, because:

come on ... let's see those emails posted up for all to see ... clowns like he need to be shown up for what they are ... er, clowns !"GodalmingYellow" wrote:I see from the very bottom of the Ledgister signing report on the official site, is news of yet another fixture change.
The Burton game has been moved to the Sunday.
I made a complaint to John Moules of the Football Conference yesterday. He's an arrogant sod.
